Grant Baldwin - He has a unique ability to capture an audience's attention with comedy and humor, yet still challenge them to think and apply action to their lives. Grant is the author of the book, Reality Check, which is a guide for helping students make the transition from high school into college and the real world.
Tou Ger Xiong - Back by Popular Demand! Xiong’s work as a Hmong artist and activist has been featured on national television, radio and newspaper. Professionals refer to him as the first Hmong comedian, bilingual storyteller, and consultant on multicultural issues. Young people know him as the Hmong version of Chris Rock, Jim Carey and Snoop Doggy Dogg. All stir-fried into one. In 1996, Xiong created Project Respectism, an educational service project that uses comedy, storytelling and rap music to bridge cultures and generations. Since then, Project Respectism has evolved into a program that provides cultural entertainment and education for people of all professions and backgrounds. Xiong has taken his message about respect to 44 states in the past 12 years. He has given over 1,600 presentations nationwide to audiences of all ages and ethnic backgrounds, sometimes reaching as many as 10,000 people in a week.
A special service project for the conference will be shopping to fill the shelves of the Kearney Food Bank. Russ’s Foods will open their doors to the Teams of Shoppers who will have donated dollars to fill their shopping lists. Teams will challenge each other to get the best deals and the most for their money. Groceries will be delivered to the Kearney Food Pantry and sorted by other Teams. A community service is provided which reaches far beyond the city limits. Participants talk about and promote our wonderful youth organizations with the media coverage generated across the state. Youth groups are encouraged to collect food from their own communities and bring it with them to the conference at registration. Click here for a flyer with more information about the "Food Flood."
