Thank You; Nebraska Masonry is Alive and Well
As Grand Master, I have had the pleasure and honor of representing the Masons of Nebraska while visiting other Grand Jurisdictions and participating in the Mid-West Conference of Grand Lodges. When given the opportunity to address these august groups, I typically begin with the line “Thank you; Freemasonry IS alive and well in Nebraska.
A few months ago, I wrote that I believed Nebraska Masonry then stood at a crossroads, which might well determine not only the quality, but the very fate of our beloved fraternity. While meeting with many Masons during my travels around the state, I can say with conviction – Nebraska Masonry is definitely on the right path. However, while I’m inspired by what’s been accomplished these past few months, much work lies ahead.
The Grand Lodge Committees have been meeting and are committed to achieving the goals they have set for themselves, on behalf of Nebraska Freemasonry. The local Lodges are doing Degree Work on good men who are coming to the Fraternity seeking a place to grow individually, while having the opportunity to serve their fellow man. The appendant bodies have renewed enthusiasm and commitment as a result of Nebraska Masonry taking the high road and doing what’s right.
While having the honor of addressing the Youth groups at their respective state gatherings this summer, I’ve stressed the importance of raising their expectations not only of themselves, but also of those around them. It doesn’t matter whether we are referring to a DeMolay, a Rainbow Girl, or a Jobie; as they grow, they will be well served by their experience when those tough decision need to be made. The same holds true for the adult organizations. Only when we understand the obligations which we freely took and embrace them in our daily lives will we receive the full benefits of Masonry.
The many great philanthropies of Masonry are a result of what Masons believe and not our primary reason for existence. Only by embracing the teachings of Freemasonry and putting them into practice will we make a difference in our own lives, our families, and our communities. Such endeavors as the Nebraska Freemasons Child Identification Program, the Masonic All-Star Marching Band Camp, Academic Scholarships, the Triennial Youth Leadership Conference, the Children’s Home in Fremont, the Masonic Home in Plattsmouth, along with those of the concordant bodies; we are making a difference by doing what’s right.
The next time someone asks about the state of Masonry in Nebraska, you can tell them with confidence; Nebraska Masonry is alive and well!
